Tourist attractions in Pisa

Pisa’s historical quarters have maintained their medieval identity. Just walk on the streets and lanes and discover highly suggestive corners and squares, magnificent ancient churches and trattorias where to taste typical Tuscan dishes.

Amongst the most important monuments are the Cathedral, situated in Piazza del Duomo and UNESCO’s World Heritage Site, the Leaning Tower, one of Italy’s most renowned monuments, the Baptistery, which is the largest in Italy, and the Monumental Cemetery.

Piazza del Duomo, also known as Campo dei Miracoli, Piazza dei Cavalieri, where is the Scuola Normale Superiore, and Piazza Carrara, one of Pisa’s most ancient squares, are some of the city’s most important squares.

Pisa is also rich in ancient churches. The 16th-century Church of Santo Stefano, the Church of Santa Maria della Spina, a wonderful example of Pisan Gothic style, the Church of San Paolo a Ripa d’Arno, also called Duomo Vecchio, and the Church of San Francesco are well worth a visit.

Pisa’s most important museums are the Museo Nazionale di San Matteo, housing a valuable collection of paintings, the Museo delle Sinopie, in Piazza del Duomo, the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, the Museo della Navigazione and the Museo di Palazzo Reale.
